Regular readers of the Club’s old-style Newsletter might recall articles that reported on our Committee Chairman’s participation in the React Games, an annual tournament that is open to all ‘50 Plus‘ groups from Sports Centres throughout Southern England. David’s participation in these Games started in 2010, when he represented his town’s 50 Plus club in Short Tennis – and he and his partner beat all-comers from various clubs throughout the region, thereby winning the Gold Medal. In 2011 he successfully defended his title (with a different partner) – and came away undefeated with his second Gold Medal.
In our last paper copy of the old-style Newsletter, we reported that David had successfully taken on all-comers at the 2012 Games to win his third consecutive Gold – but when asked would he try for a fourth he wasn’t sure (saying that it was too early to know what his fitness level would be twelve months on).
Two years later, we are pleased to report that not only did he take part and win the Gold at the 2013 Games, but that in the 2014 event (which took place in Reading, Berkshire, on the 20th October) he won his fifth consecutive Gold Medal (again without losing a match).
Bearing in mind the amount of time that David spends in his home office working on Crown Resorts’ matters, we don’t know how he has managed this unrivalled achievement. Well done David – and we wonder whether his sixth Gold Medal will be beckoning in 2015.
